Wood storks are large wading birds that soar in the southeastern U.S. skies. Their movements cover large distances across many states, but details on their migratory journeys were unknown until very recently. Using modern GPS-tracking technology, we unraveled the secrets of wood stork migration for the first time. We learned that not all individuals behave the same way when it comes to movement, and that this can affect their lives in an environment that increasingly changes because of humans.
